Q. What is the shell made of?

A. One of the advantages with a Barker Homes is that it's constructed with conventional framing. And another interesting thing - our homes are less suspect to termite damage due to our unique slab system. The Barker Home foundation system is constructed with metal I-beams and pipe-columns instead of a traditional wood structure with a cement foundation. When talking about the strength of the home one of the most important features is the floor joists. Barker Homes wants you to have a sturdy and solid structure, and this is why our floor joists are pressure treated 2 X 10s sitting on top of a 12-inch steel I beam - Versus untreated 2 x 6s (the industry standard). We also offer the option of engineered wood.

Q. Can the home be raised?

A. Yes
3 feet above base level is standard and included in the base price of a Barker Home. However we can raise the home to 6 feet with a full slab , 9 feet with garage doors and a full slab.

Q. Can you rebuild from an existing floor plan?

A. SOMETIMES
However usually this will be considered a custom build and the pricing will differ. Pilings are not priced into the Barker Home. We do not alter our floor plans to build to fit existing pilings or slabs for that matter.
